Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe
On this first day of your safari, you rise up a little bit earlier and have a relaxed breakfast. From where you will embark on a long journey for Nyungwe with stopovers at local markets to traditional palace of Rwanda’s Forn in Nyanza.
Day2: Visit Butare Cultural Museum
After breakfast tour the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum in Butare. Then transfer to the hot springs in Bugarama. Dinner and overnight at Rest House, meal plan: F/B
Day 3: Lake Kivu Tour
After breakfast undertake a primates tracking tour in the Nyungwe Forest in search of immense troops of Angolan Colobus and the Golden monkeys, and the chimpanzees. In the afternoon after your lunch, drive to Gisenyi. Enjoy swimming in the bilharzia-free fresh water of Lake Kivu. The background of the lake is beautified by Nyiragongo Volcano which recently erupted in 2002. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Izuba-Meridien, meal plan: F/B
Day4: Lake Kivu-Ruhengeri
Early in the morning transfer northwards to Ruhengeri. In the afternoon visit the surrounding communities. Visit local Dian Fossey projects. Dinner and overnight Gorilla Nest Lodge/Kinigi Guest House, meal plan: F/B
Day5: Community walk
After breakfast undertake a community walk. A local traditional dance by the Batwa (Pygmies) can be pre-arranged for you upon your request. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Nest Lodge/Kinigi Guest House, meal plan: F/B
Day 6: Visit the Batwa (Pygmies)
On this day you will wake up early in the morning and have a sumptuous breakfast from where you will drive to Ruhengeri where you will straight away go to the Batwa community where a traditional dance will be organized for you on this day by the Batwa (Pygmies). From here you will visit the local brick makers. Overnight stay at Mt Gorilla View Lodge / Chimp Nest Lodge.
Day 7: Visit the twin Lakes – Ruhondo and Burera
Enjoy your morning breakfast and later transfer to the twin lakes, Rubondo and Bulera. Interact with the fishermen, if you are interested in activity; go fishing in the local canoes. Later visit the traditional witch doctor called the “Snake man”. Proceed to the convent “Foyer de Charité”.
Day 8: Dian Fossey Hike
You will go and visit Dian Fossey’s Grave – a famous researcher on Mountain gorillas for 20 years. Experience great scenery and close view of many sorts of wildlife on the trek to the Grave. Return to lodge for dinner and overnight, meal plan: F/B
Day 9: Departure
Have the whole morning at ease relaxed. Depending on flight schedule, you may have lunch at the Lodge before heading to the Airport for departure. End of your non guided cultural tour.
